Q: How long do lessons go for?

A: Our swimming and water safety lessons run for 30 minutes.

Some higher levels and the GOswim Academy run from 45min to 1 hr.

Q: How many students are in the class?

A: GOswim lessons follow industry guidelines of student-teacher ratios. The number of students in each class is designed to provide the best learning outcomes.

Q: Do you offer personal or one on one lessons?

A: A: Yes, our program caters for one on one or private lessons depending on your specific needs and staff availability. Please approach your nearest GOswim team to discuss this.

Q: How do I know what level I am / my child is at?

A: You can view our GOswim Curriculum to help you determine which level may best suit you or your child based on current swimming ability or age. If you are unsure our friendly staff will ask you a series of questions concerning you or your child’s swimming experience to determine the correct level during the enrolment process. If needed one of our Swimming Teachers will assess you or your child according to the GOswim Curriculum prior to or during your first lesson to ensure that you are enrolled best possible class.

Q: How do I pay for GOswim lessons?

A: Payments are made using advanced payments and can be direct debited weekly, fortnightly or monthly. Please Discuss the GOswim payment options available at your venue.

Q: When do GOswim payments occur?

A: For direct debit, payments are weekly or fortnightly depending on your facility. These will occur automatically, so you do not have to keep track each week. Payments will occur on the same day every week, fortnight or monthly.

Q: What do I need to bring to lessons?

A: Some of the essentials to bring along to your GOswim lesson include a:

  • comfortable single-piece swimsuit for you or your child
  • towel
  • change of clothes
  • swim nappy if your child is not toilet trained, or for babies
  • pair of swim goggles or cap if preferred
  • happy and cheery smile with lots of energy

We aim to provide a safe learning environment for all students. If your child has a fever or is showing signs of illness, please re-schedule your lesson to a time when they are feeling well.

Q: How do I change my class time?

A: If your class time does not suit you, we will do our best to find a better time for you. Please use your Membership App, where applicable, call your venue to speak with one of our friendly GOswim staff members, or come a little earlier on your next visit to speak with the reception staff.

Q: Can I suspend my membership?

A: Most venues offer you the ability to suspend your direct debit for the school holidays, illness, or other necessary reasons for up to 6 weeks per annum. Please note, this may incur a small fee to hold your spot in the swim school during the time you are suspended.

Q: What happens if we miss a lesson?

A: The membership fee secures your place within the program class. Missed lesson options vary by location. Prior notification or presentation of a medical certificate for the missed lesson will assist the staff to provide a make-up lesson or arrange a credit.

Q: How much notice do I need to give for cancellation?

A: Cancellations usually require a 30 day notice period. Simply speak to the staff at your GOswim venue.

Q: Are your teachers accredited?

A: All of our teachers have been trained and qualified by Australia’s leading aquatic industry bodies and also undergo extensive, practical on-the-job training.

Q: Will I have the same teacher every week?

A: We always try our best to keep our swimming teachers consistent for every class, but your teacher may change as you move and progress through the program. Some teachers may also be absent from time to time but we always aim to provide a replacement teacher so that your child’s lesson can continue as scheduled.

Q: Will I receive certificates upon completion of levels?

A: Even better, each student receives a GOswim medal for completing each infant pre-school and primary level as well for the GOswim Academy. There are also certificates provided from time to to reward success and achievement of various milestones.

Q: Does the program only operate during school terms?

A: As swimming is a skill that needs consistent, regular practice, lessons run for up to 48 weeks of the year (this varies for pools that are not open throughout winter). Lessons may pause for a period over the Christmas break in December. Please confirm specific details with your GOswim venue.

Q: Does GOswim offer school holiday programs?

A: Yes! Most GOswim venues offer a Summer Holiday Swimming Program and similar water safety and intensive programs at other times. Please enquire at your GOswim venue to learn more about their specific holiday programs.

Q: Do parents need to attend with students?

A: Yes, even if you are not required to be in the water with your child, active parent supervision is required at all times. Plus, the best way to help your child progress is to understand what they are learning in each lesson. This will allow you to help them practice between lessons.

Q: What is your nappy policy?

A: We require all of our little swimmers who are not toilet trained to wear leak-proof swim nappies when in the water. You can purchase suitable nappies from the reception area at most GOswim venues.

Q: Are swimming caps compulsory?

A: We do recommend wearing a swimming cap in lessons, however, they are not compulsory.
