What to Expect at Your First GOswim Lesson
Starting swimming lessons is an exciting milestone, whether you’re enrolling with your child or stepping into the water yourself. Your first lesson is all about feeling comfortable, supported, and confident as you begin your swimming journey.
At GOswim, we focus on building water safety, confidence, and progression in a structured and supportive environment.
As you prepare for your first GOswim lesson, we’ve put together a helpful set of tips to support a positive and confident start!
1. Arrive early and check in
We encourage all students to arrive at least 15 minutes early for their first swimming lesson. Upon arrival, we ask that you first speak with reception so we can point you towards your teacher and the location of your lesson, who will introduce themselves to you.
This helps ensure a smooth and relaxed start to your first session.
2. Your GOswim welcome bag
Your GOswim welcome bag will be ready to collect upon your first lesson at reception or from your instructor at the start of your session.
It includes helpful program information and resources to support your swimming journey.
3. Aquatic access after lessons
Some GOswim venues offer unlimited aquatic access outside of lesson times, allowing students to practice and build confidence in their own time.
Where available, students are welcome to continue swimming after their lesson concludes. Please check with your local venue for specific access conditions.
4. Change room facilities
Please use our change room facilities, including showers and toilets, to change or rinse off before entering the pool. This helps ensure comfort, hygiene, and readiness for your lesson.
5. What to bring
Make sure you’re prepared with:
- Goggles
- Towels
- Swim cap
- Appropriate swimwear
We also stock a range of swimming equipment available for purchase if you need anything on the day.
6. Swimwear requirements for toilet training
Any student still toilet training will be required to wear an aqua-nappy while in the pool. These can be purchased at reception if needed.
7. Safety, supervision and photography
For the safety of all students, taking photos or videos during swimming lessons is not permitted.
All GOswim venues operate under strict active supervision guidelines to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment at all times. Parents and guardians are expected to actively supervise children when not in their lesson.
Supervision requirements may vary slightly by venue and state, so please refer to your local venue’s guidelines for full details.
A safe, supportive start to your swimming journey
Your first GOswim lesson is designed to be welcoming, structured, and confidence-building. Whether you’re supporting a child or learning yourself, our goal is to help every swimmer feel safe in the water and supported from day one.
With clear progression, friendly instructors, and a focus on water safety, your swimming journey starts with confidence, and grows from there.
